MOBILE APP ICON DESIGN

Cartoon Network has published over fifty mobile games for phones and tablets on IOS and Android platforms.

 

Many of these games are based on different show IP's each with a unique concept and theme. In order to visually unite them and market Cartoon Network as a leader in the game developement industry, we created a design system based on best practices that reflects these goals.

BEST PRACTICES FOR ICON CREATION

To help unite all of the apps, we designed a branded app wrapper to frame each icon.

​

After conducting several app icon tests with our audience we identified that simple was the best.

 

Below are the best practices we use: 

 

  1. Use a single character

  2. Use a bold and contrasting color for the background with a subtle pattern for texture and depth

  3. Incorporate a game defining element to distinguish games based on same show brands
